Unlocking the Path to Athletic Success: Overcoming the Pack Mentality Embracing Individuality in Sports

Unlocking the Path to Athletic Success: Overcoming the Pack Mentality
Embracing Individuality in Sports

In the world of sports, it’s easy to get caught up in the “pack mentality” – a tendency to follow the crowd, blindly adopting the same training programs, coaches, and strategies as everyone else. However, as Coach Eric Johnson and Coach Aaron discuss, this approach can be detrimental to an athlete’s growth and ultimate success.

The Dangers of Conformity

The coaches emphasize that the pack mentality can stifle an athlete’s individuality, creativity, and personal development. They argue that true success often comes from stepping outside the box and finding the path that works best for the individual, rather than simply following the crowd.

“If you’re with the pack, expect to be with the pack.” – Coach Eric Johnson

Developing Goals and Aspirations

One of the key issues the coaches identify is the lack of clear goals and aspirations among many athletes. They believe that without a strong sense of what they want to achieve, athletes are more likely to fall into the trap of the pack mentality, simply going along with what everyone else is doing.

“What’s wrong with aspiring to greatness? You have to shoot for something.” – Coach Aaron

Collaboration and Empowerment

Are you showcase ready?

Whether you are a newbie or veteran of the showcase experience here are a few suggestions before you attend your next one.

Are you showcase ready?2019-02-04T11:23:22-08:00

60 yard dash – A fast sixty begins with getting off to the right start

START – Practice multiple stances. Straight ahead start and baseball steal position. Be comfortable and well balanced in your stance, ready to explode. Too much lean or being off balance can cause you to stumble or impede your ability to drive out fast.

So Your Going to A Showcase: Why?

Many times athletes go to showcases without any concrete goals. Some go simply because they feel its cool to go or want to see who else is going. Many go hoping and wishing some college is going to offer a scholarship right on the spot (not likely). All very poor reasons to attend a showcase. Goals for going to showcases should have a concrete . Primarily to further your DEVELOPMENT as a player! This in turn can improve your chances in the recruiting process. (Ultimate Goal!) Some of the right reasons for attending a showcase can be: Wanting to get an idea how they match up against their recruiting class (talent reality check). For others, it might be, to see how it feels to participate under the gun, when important people are watching. Whatever the case you should have a defined goal and stick with it when participating. Don’t be all over the place. A showcase is not the time for posting pictures and videos on instagram. Be ready , leave your ego behind, learn and grow from the experience. As a result you will be a better athlete, ready for the next showcase.

Trio Plans, Prepares & Realize Freshman Baseball Goals

San Ramon – Some of the Bay Areas best baseball is played in the Contra Costa county. In particular that stretch up the 680 freeway from the 580 to highway 4.  There are highly competitive, little leagues, travel teams and high school programs. Each year hundreds of kids attempt to make the transition into highschool baseball by making the all important freshman squad. Programs like De La Salle, San Ramon Valley, Campolindo and others can see easily up to 60-70 athletes aspiring to make their freshman teams. Unfortunately there are only a few roster spots.

We’ve been training baseball athletes for over 23 years in this area and this is of great concern to athletes and parents. Everyone wants to play freashman baseball. The hard truth is most will be cut. Some things will be out of there control, others are not. In most cases the athletes are just plain not prepared. Most dont have the athletic habits that are required to succeed initially in highschool sports.

Well we can tell you of three young men who made sure that wasnt going to happen. Conor and Ryan Jewik along with Josh Sherwood with the help of their parents dedided well in advance to […]

Improve Batspeed & Power – Weighted Batswings

Improve Batspeed & Power – Weighted Batswings

Weighted batswings are a common method to improve a hitters batspeed and power. However in most cases the implements inviolved (donuts, weighted bats ) are used incorrectly and can do more harm than good.

When doing this form of training keep these 3 things in mind:

1. Choose a bat that is the same length that you always swing.

2. Only increase the weight by a couple of ounces. Putting too much weight is trhe most common mistake. You are swinging not weight lifting.

3. Above all keep your proper swing mechanics. Working off a tee will help you keep them dialed in.

Reflexx – Reaction Light Training

Hand Eye and Hand Foot coordination are crucial to athletes playing sports with balls. Soccer, football, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and hockey all require a high degree of visiual processing followed by the approriate physical response. There are only a couple ways to train for those moments:

– Team practices
– Scrimmages

Reflexx training allows us to condense the visual, mental processes and physical repsonses into reps at its most base level. It allows us to train over and over again adjusting the stimuli and response time and action. That enables us to train the exact proper athletic response and improve the time in which it occurs.

Block shots- Goalies

Hit Balls – Tennis, Baseball, Racquetball

Field Balls – Baseball, Softball

Catch Balls – Lacrosse, Football

Evade Defenders – Basetball, Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Rugby
