Gamespeed Training: Pitchers Off Season Conditioning, & Custom Programming 2009-2015
Reds right-hander Robert Stephenson went through a rare rough patch at the start of the season because he was trying to be too fine with his pitches and too fast with his tempo.
He gave up five runs in Birmingham and four more — two earned — against Biloxi five days later. He was chased in the first inning in Jackson and then issued a career-high seven walks against Tennessee. Something had to change and it was as simple as taking an extra breath and checking finger placement on his delivery.
Any way you look at it, the numbers were troublesome for a highly touted first-round Draft pick and top Cincinnati prospect who has averaged more than 10 strikeouts per nine innings over his four-year Minor League career.
If the start of the year represented his worst, his past couple starts are a good showcase of his best.
Stephenson allowed an unearned run on one hit and a walk while striking out seven batters over a career-high eight innings in the Double-A Pensacola Blue […]
Andre Ward, the super middleweight champion from Oakland who is returning to the ring after a year and a half layoff, will fight England’s Paul Smith on June 20, promoter Roc Nation Sports has announced.
Ward is 27-0 with 14 knockouts, but the 31-year-old boxer has not been in the ring since beating Edwin Rodriguez in a November 2013 title defense in Ontario. Ward’s absence from the ring was partly due to a shoulder injury, but it was mostly because of a lengthy battle over his promotional contract with late promoter Dan Goossen, who died in September.
Well this is a nice story. DeJah Robinson came to Gamespeed just two weeks before the NCS Meet of Champions this past weekend. When an athlete shows up this late in the game there’s nothing you can do speed or conditioning wise to make them better. The best you can do is tinker or fine tune their technique and hope it sticks under the pressure of competition. Well Dejah proved to be a “quick” study. We focused only on two things: her block start and arm technique. After just two sessions the tenth grader from St Mary’s dropped her personal best 300m hurdle time from 47.68 to 45.60! almost two seconds! Good enough to place third and a trip to the California State meet.
A testament to her willingness to change and her ability to learn so quickly and execute under extreme pressure. I am looking forward to working more with this athlete.
Incidentally she followed the NCS champion Gamespeed trained alum Michelle Thompson (2012, 2013, 2014 summer) of Dougherty Valley. Great job Michelle.
Private Sessions by Request.
All of these gentlemen put in a lot of work starting their training as early as July of last year! They made it pay off. On to state fellas!
Jamaun Charles 100m/200m Amador Valley
Gamespeed Training; 2012, 2013, 2104-15 Custom programming, Sunday track Class
Jamaun was the defending champion in the 100/200m. He retained his title in the 100m running 10.71 to beat Gamespeed trained CJ Edwards of Castro Valley at 10.77.
He almost completed a rare double but in the 200m was overtaken in the final meters to place second by .04 with a time of 21.77.
He also ran legs of the 400m relay which placed 2nd and the 1600m relay which placed third.
He qualified for the state meet in four events.
Athlete: Jamuan Charles
Sport: Track 100m/200m/400m
Gamespeed Training: Custom programming and Sunday track Class: 2013, 2014, 2015
The Washington State bound Charles sped to seasonal bests of 10.63 and 21.62.
Athlete: Cameron Edwards
Sport: Track 100m/200m
Gamespeed Training: Custom programming, Sunday Track Class 2014-15.
The UC Davis bound Edwards sped 11.24 & 22.06 into cold windy headwinds. Not the best conditions but he beat all competitors.
Both athletes move onto the Meet of Champions next week.
