ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE TRAINING
The purpose of training is to improve performance. Training is the stimulus for improvement. The immediate response after training is fatigue. During the recovery period, between training sessions, the body adapts and super-compensates in preparation for the next workout. With proper training the body adapts through a process called gene transcription. Genes are the codes, or set of instructions, that direct which amino acids are used to build a specific proteins within the cells of the body. Increases in red blood cells, muscle fiber recruitment, mitochondria,
aerobic enzymes, a stronger and larger heart and muscle size are all the result of new proteins produced through gene transcription.

A training session, or workout, produces a chemical-signal that 'triggers' the genes within specific cells.
