gives you a second chance in case you don't catch the ball clean on the first attempt.you catch every thing in front of you so the ball never leaves your vision.

When using your body it is too easy to lose sight of ball during the last six inches of flight, which often causes a miscalculation and a drop ball or worse yet a ricochet off the pads.

Always catch the ball where you can see it. Catching the ball with your hands alsoAnother argument for catching with the hands is keeping control of the ball when getting hit. When

catching the ball and getting hit at the same time, the jolt of the hit rocks your body, but if you use your hands your arms will absorb the hit and you will be able to hold onto the ball.

Hand and Body Position

Now that you understand that it is a must to catch the ball with your hands, you need to make sure your hands are in the right position when doing so. Any pass thrown above your waist the ball should be caught with your thumbs and index fingers together forming a diamond  shape.Your elbows should be slightly bent so your arms are almost fully extended.
